Governor Sets March Madness as North Carolina Online Sports Betting Launch Goal

As reported on SportsBetting Dime.com by Robert Linnehan, Gov. Roy Cooper (D), recently appearing on the Ovies + Giglio Show, discussed North Carolina’s sports betting future and publicly stated that his goal is to have sports betting launched in the state prior to the March Madness NCAA basketball tournament. “The goal is to get it out there before March Madness. No guarantee that that’s the case, but that is the goal,” Cooper told the sports talk hosts.

Seminole Tribe reopens mobile sports betting app to all Floridians

For the first time in more than two years, sports betting is back in Florida. The Seminole Tribe’s mobile sports betting app re-launched to all Floridians this week. On Thursday, sports betting, roulette and other games have launched at the Seminole-owned casinos across the state. But multiple lawsuits could once again shutter sports betting in the state. The app, Hard Rock Bet, was re-named after a brief stint two years ago. Now, despite an ongoing lawsuit, WEAR News is told the Seminole Tribe had enough leeway to launch the app again. This time, they’re hoping its permanent.

Maryland sports betting growth draws concern over lack of contribution to Problem Gambling Fund

Maryland online sports betting since it started in Nov. 2022 has drawn a predicted $4B in bets, but it also “raises questions about addressing the potential for more people developing an addiction to betting,” according to Hayes Gardner of the BALTIMORE SUN. With 15% of sportsbooks’ profits “going to the state,” sports betting is “expected to raise at least” $40M for public education in Maryland in its first year.
